The Pathology department is seeking a Histology Technician to join their team per diem (on call) located in Everett, WA$1500.00 Sign on BonusUnder general supervision, this position is responsible for accurately logging in/accessioning tissue samples for gross analysis. Position may perform gross analysis under the supervision of a pathologist. Routine microtomy and embedding. Performing routine and special stains.**The Histology Technician is responsible for and not limited to:**+ Performs both routine and complex special procedures with the understanding of tissue structures, techniques, principles, theory and instrumentation.+ Able to accession specimens, process, gross, embed, cut and stain all types of tissue specimens received in the Histology Department.+ Coverslip stained sections, verify that the staining shows adequate cellular distinction, label, and distribute to the pathologist responsible for reviewing the case.+ Assures specimen labeling requirements are met and necessary clinical information is available as needed.+ Assists laboratory assistant or performs accessioning of patient specimens into laboratory computer system when needed.+ Demonstrates general knowledge of pathological and physiological conditions that affect test results and tissue staining.+ Selects and maintains appropriate tissue blocks to serve as controls for Special Stains. Maintains all documentation that insures that all Special Stain control blocks have been adequately tested. Cuts and labels control slides for Histology, Special Stains and IHC.+ Able to process and decal bone specimens.+ Recognize and troubleshoot both routine and complex problems and assist other Histotechs and lab assistants with technical problems.+ Monitor quality control results and take immediate and proper action when controls are unacceptable. Follow defined procedures with only supervisor or pathologist approved modifications or deviations.+ Complete all instrument function verification, changing/rotating solutions, maintenance, and documents according to procedure in Histology area. Ensure that equipment defects and malfunctions are reported and repaired.+ Responsible for the proper handling and disposal of all biohazardous materials and chemically hazardous materials including the neutralization or recycling of chemicals before disposal or reuse.+ Assists supervisory staff in monitoring workflow and insuring that work/staining priorities are met for the department.+ Able to do all the duties of an HT, Non - Registered Histotechnician, Lab Tech II, and Laboratory Assistant within the Pathology Department. During heavy workloads or staffing shortages, the Histology Technician may be required to perform any or all of the duties in these positions.**Preferred Experience and Credentials**+ AA or Bachelor's degree in Science, Histotechnology or replated field from an accredited college, or approved hospital-based Histotechnology program+ 2 years clinical laboratory experience+ Histology Technician (HT) or Histology Technologist (HTL) (ASCP)**UnitedHealth Group requires all new hires and employees to report their COVID-19 Vaccination status****Full COVID- 19 vaccination is an essential requirement of this role.**UHG will adhere to all federal and local regulations as well as client requirement and will obtain necessary proof of vaccinations prior to employment to ensure compliance.Employees are required to screen for symptoms using an approved symptom screener prior to entering the work site each day, in order to keep our work sites safe.Employees must comply with any state and local masking orders.
