SunIRef:Manu Duties Summary You will serve as a MATERIALS HANDLER in the Recycling to Integrated Solid Waste Division of NAVFAC NORTHWEST. Responsibilities You will identify type of material handling equipment (e.g., forklift, shelving, restraints) necessary to move or store heavy, bulky, or odd-shaped items. You will move heavy materials in close quarters (e.g., narrow aisles or ramps, in and out of buildings, on and off trucks or other conveyance). You will operate recycling equipment (e.g., balers, crushing machines, scales) to compact recyclable material. You will operate power equipment and small hand tools to assist with warehousing duties. You will determine the safe stacking height for particular commodities based on floor load limits, overhead clearance, or strength and composition of packing materials. You will safely operate a forklift, hand truck, pallet jack, or other material handling equipment to gather items for shipment. You will load, collect and sort recyclable materials. You will safely operate vehicles not exceeding 26,000 GVW. Travel Required Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position. Must be determined suitable for federal employment. Must participate in the direct deposit pay program. You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. Employee will be required to obtain and maintain at a minimum a forklift certification. Failure to obtain and maintain licensing requirements may result in removal. Call back, regular and emergency overtime are regular requirements of this position. May be assigned to any basic work week or shift hours, including alternating shifts. May be required to carry a phone, portable radio or other communication device to maintain contact with supervisor or customer service center at all times. This position requires the employee to travel occasionally away from the normal duty station. Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Identify materials turned in for recycling are and separated them into categories. 2) Safely operate small material handling equipment and motor vehicles. 3) Use hand tools such as wrenches, height gages, hammers, crow bars, and pliers. Education Additional information This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. May operate gasoline, propane or diesel powered forklifts capable of lifting weights up to 20,000 pounds. Required to work inside and outside in all weather conditions in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty or poorly lighted. Exposed to noise, dust, grease, chemical solvents, and possibility of cuts, bruises, and abrasions in sorting, loading, and off-loading of recycling commodities. Broken bones may result from shifting loads, toppling stacks, falling objects, or accidents with other moving equipment. Performs work related efforts in reaching, bending, turning or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand/foot controls. Safety precautions must be followed in all recycling to integrated solid waste operations dealing with all material and equipment. Additional vacancies may be filled by this announcement.
