Job Description - Registration Specialist (3235666) Registration Specialist - ( 3235666 ) -increase The primary function of the position is to increase revenue collection and decrease denials and the workload on the front-line; the individual will verify eligibilities daily for Medicaid, Medicare, self pay, CMSP, Health Start, and make appropriate changes in Epic Hyperspace. The goal will be to have the most accurate insurance information in the system. The individual will communicate with practices and educate as needed. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPOSIBLILITIES:

  • The person is a trained Registration Assistant capable of doing full registrations, updating demographic, insurance, PCP, and global updates. May need to contact patients or carriers in order to verify and clarify insurance information.
  • Responsible for clear registrations; either full or partial updates and verify identity, and insurance per protocol.
  • Contributes to a positive hospital experience for patients and families through courteous interactions and interview activities, as well as referral to appropriate clinical or financial staff when necessary.
  • Respects patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Carefully performs system searches of the Master Patient Index for all patients. Issues a new medical record number when appropriate and coordinates the resolution of duplicate medical record numbers.
  • Accurately and comprehensively collects and verifies demographic and financial information from patients and/or their representatives in a sensitive and timely manner.
  • Verifies patient insurance coverage with Third Party Payors and determines eligibility by utilizing appropriate technology.
  • Determines if patient requires financial assistance and refers patients to Patient Financial Services for - counseling as necessary.
  • Assists in the development of tools to assist the staff in the registration /verification process, as well as in the insurance code selection process. -
  • Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers. Strives for the goal of achieving a positive experience for the patient.
  • Contributes to the teamwork within and between departments. 'Provides constructive ideas, suggestions and feedback in a positive manner. Works collaboratively with co-workers to effectively resolve issues that impact departmental or hospital operations.
  • In addition, the person will record information on encounter form copies for practices so they can call patients and alert if the patient has an outside PCP etc.
  • The individual will also communicate educational information on the insurances as needed and interact with staff to ensure clarity and appropriate next steps,
  • The individual will bring matters to the Administrative Manager's attention for follow up and/or direction, The individual the individual will keep files and /or documentation on those areas that require more attention in addition to approximately how many are being done daily. The duties and responsibilities of the position may change as a result of volume, change to a new system, or encompass additional duties depending on the workload. QUALIFICATIONS:
    • High school diploma
    • Prior experience as a Hospital registrar a must.
    • Spanish speaking required. SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
      • Attention to detail
      • Ability to stay focused and energetic until each day work is completed.
      • Ability to follow through and work with billing specialist and Patient Financial Services Representatives.
      • Ability to work with patients over the phone.
      • Ability to work with staff in various departments and communicate issues clearly and concisely.
