Job Description:

At Cocoon House we empower young people, families, and communities in Snohomish County to break the cycle of homelessness through outreach, housing, and prevention. Currently, our Outreach program is looking for the right person to fill the Youth Advocate role which works directly with youth ages 12-24 experiencing or at-risk of homelessness. The purpose of this position is to engage with street-dependent youth through street outreach in the county and youth-driven, goal-based case management.Our Youth Advocates...Meet youth where they're at in order to build positive relationships to establish trust and supportRelate to both youth and other staff across the agencyMaintain healthy and safe boundaries with youthHave a familiarity with local services and how to access themAccept a variety of lifestyles, behaviors, and cultural and spiritual practicesAssess emergency and dangerous situations, gather pertinent information, and provide proper support or emergency servicesFollow mandating reporting and licensing policies and proceduresDe-escalate youth in crises and utilize anti-racist, inclusive, equity-based, and trauma-informed care in all of their workWhat does the job look like?Days Full-time: 40 hrs/weekConduct hands-on, daily street outreach to street-dependent youth in Snohomish CountyPromote and present on Cocoon House services through community outreachBuild a network of agencies and resources within Snohomish County and the Puget Sound regionProvide mobile, youth-driven, strength-based case management based on positive youth development with a focus on assistance with employment, education, housing, substance abuse, medical care, and legal needs for up to 25-30 youth.Support other programs as neededProvide coverage in a phone rotation for a 24/7 crisis response line for youth in need of SafePlaceBenefits:Medical, Dental, and Vision health options with employer contribution403(b) retirement plan21 days of PTO accrued in first year10 agency-recognized holidaysPaid training & testing: CPR/first aid, food handler's permit, blood borne pathogens, abuse awareness, TB testing, and additional in-depth practical trainingsPay Scale: $19-$20

Preferred:Spanish speaking/bi-lingual skillsGeneral:Must be 21 years of age or olderHigh school diploma or GEDExperience working in case management or supportive services [preferably with youth and young adults]DSHS background clearanceAcceptable driver's abstract with no more than 2 violations within last 3 yearsPossess a valid driver's license, insurance, and reliable transportationProof of COVID-19 vaccination(s)Physical:Ability to perform range of physical motions, exerting up to 50 poundsLifting and carrying up to 50 poundsStanding, walking, sitting for long periods of time, kneeling, squatting, and stoopingRunning for brief periods of timeGo up and down stairsCocoon House will provide reasonable accommodation to qualified persons with disabilities upon request.
