Description Providence is calling for a Chaplain (1.0 FTE, Day
Shift) to work in the Inpatient Palliative Care Consult Team at
Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett, WA. Apply Today!

palliative care chaplain, alongside the palliative care
interdisciplinary team (IDT), assesses the social, spiritual, and
environmental strengths and vulnerabilities of patients and
families to determine their ability to cope with serious illness
and to help identify and support those elements of care that would
help maximize quality of life. The IDT plans for, arranges,
supports, and coordinates services to address patient and family
medical, functional, spiritual and social goals, to the extent
possible, and ensures that its environment, policies, procedures,
and practices are culturally respectful. In this position you
will:
- Coordinates and/or provides psychospiritual support to
patients/families receiving palliative care services; aligns care
according to patient values and/or advance care directives.
- Balances team and individual responsibilities; exhibits
objectivity and openness to others' views; skillfully provides and
receives constructive feedback; participates in morale building and
group commitments to goals and objectives; provides support to
individual team members around resilience, dissolutions of moral
distress, burnout prevention, and spiritual well-being.
- Conducts initial and continuing patient and family spiritual
assessments utilizing best practices as generally recognized by
national standards (APC/NACC/NAJC; NHPCO, CAPC, etc.).
- Provides interventions and develops plans of care as
appropriate to information gathered during assessment and care
coordination, and utilizing best practices.
- Fosters a working environment of respect and sensitivity;
performs duties in a manner that is non-threatening and
non-judgmental; demonstrates deep sensitivity to the value of
diversity in the workforce; treats all persons with respect and
compassion; identifies situations where cultural differences may
affect perception and takes appropriate measures to ensure
patient/family and staff safety. Required Qualifications for this
position include:
- Master's Degree - theological degree (MDiv, MTS, MA, or
equivalent)
- Coursework/Training - a minimum of four (4) units of ACPE
Clinical Pastoral Education
- 1 year clinical experience in palliative care, critical care,
or hospice
- Knowledge, experience and skill in addressing ethical dilemmas
at end of life, and patient/family concerns as related to spiritual
and/or religious issues.
- Must be Board Certified (BCC) by and in good standing with the
Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), the National
Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), or the National
Association of Jewish Chaplains (Neshama - NAJC). This
certification requires a college degree, a master's level
theological degree (MDiv, MTS, MA, or equivalent), a minimum of
four (4) units of ACPE Clinical Pastoral Education, ordination or
commissioning for ministry by a recognized religious group, a
current endorsement for chaplaincy by a recognized religious group,
and appearance before a national certifying commission for
assessment of competency.
- Advanced practice certification in palliative care (BCC-PCHAC
via APC or NACC) is required within two (2) years of hire.
Preferred Qualifications for this position include:
- Coursework in Bioethics preferred. About the clinic you will
