Description:
At Cocoon House we empower young people, families, and communities
in Snohomish County to break the cycle of homelessness through
outreach, housing, and prevention. Currently, our Outreach program
is looking for the right person to fill the Youth Advocate role
which works directly with youth ages 12-24 experiencing or at-risk
of homelessness. The purpose of this position is to engage with
street-dependent youth through street outreach in the county and
youth-driven, goal-based case management.
Our Youth Advocates...
Meet youth where they're at in order to build positive
relationships to establish trust and support
Relate to both youth and other staff across the agency
Maintain healthy and safe boundaries with youth
Have a familiarity with local services and how to access them
Accept a variety of lifestyles, behaviors, and cultural and
spiritual practices
Assess emergency and dangerous situations, gather pertinent
information, and provide proper support or emergency services
Follow mandating reporting and licensing policies and
procedures
De-escalate youth in crises and utilize anti-racist, inclusive,
equity-based, and trauma-informed care in all of their work
What does the job look like?
Days Full-time: 40 hrs/week
Conduct hands-on, daily street outreach to street-dependent youth
in Snohomish County
Promote and present on Cocoon House services through community
outreach
Build a network of agencies and resources within Snohomish County
and the Puget Sound region
Provide mobile, youth-driven, strength-based case management based
on positive youth development with a focus on assistance with
employment, education, housing, substance abuse, medical care, and
legal needs for up to 25-30 youth.
Support other programs as needed
Provide coverage in a phone rotation for a 24/7 crisis response
line for youth in need of SafePlace

Requirements:
Preferred:
Spanish speaking/bi-lingual skills
General:
Must be 21 years of age or older
High school diploma or GED
Experience working in case management or supportive services
[preferably with youth and young adults]
DSHS background clearance
Acceptable driver's abstract with no more than 2 violations within
last 3 years
Possess a valid driver's license, insurance, and reliable
transportation
Proof of COVID-19 vaccination(s)
Physical:
Ability to perform range of physical motions, exerting up to 50
pounds
Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds
Standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time, kneeling,
squatting, and stooping
Running for brief periods of time
Go up and down stairs
