Position Summary:Responsible for supporting the surgical patient flow by assisting the surgery staff with delegated tasks of direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse or surgical technologist. Scope of responsibility includes but is not limited to patient safety and satisfaction, assuring resources are readily available for each case, planning for next case needs, stocking core, ORs, supply, linen and other carts, sterilizing immediate use instruments, assisting with patient care, cleaning and preparing OR suite, and transporting of patients for perioperative services. Participates in process improvement, team building and respects hospital policies and procedures.Essential Functions:Address patients, visitors, families, and co-workers in a pleasant and respectful manner: display courtesy at all times.Respond quickly and appropriately to inquiries and requests.Assist co-workers without being asked.Display an unhurried and caring manner with visitors, families, and co-workers when performing duties.Maintain confidentiality of all patient-hospital or physician related information. Refrain from gossip and speak in low tones in all appropriate areas.Demonstrate a pleasing disposition and sensitivity to visitors', families, and co-workers' needs.Perform related assignments as requested in order to promote positive visitor, family, and co-worker relations.Obtain on duty report from Charge Nurse at beginning of shift.Complete case carts upon arrival from CS and places in proximity to assigned OR.Send preference cards to Sterile Processing for case carts to be picked.Monitor the OR tracking screen for scheduling changes.Transport patients and obtain patient beds as requested.Clean and prepare ORs between surgical procedures.Assemble positioning equipment in accordance with recommended manufacturer’s direction such as but not limited to OSI table, shoulder chair, OR beds.Monitor supply inventory, order and restock central cores and outlying storage locations as volume dictates:Special ordersCore orderOR pass through windowsWarmersCase cartsScrub sinksPrioritize requests and required supplies and equipment based on level of need (emergent, urgent, elective).Perform daily biological testing for each core autoclave and document results in log. If a positive result occurs, notify charge nurse and redo the test. If a second positive occurs, notify the charge nurse and post an out of order note on autoclave.Sterilize requested immediate use instruments and load autoclave in prescribed manner, set controls to specified time and temperature according to the type of items being sterilized. Complete appropriate documentation record prior to sterilization; read and initial autoclave graph and log to verify that all requirements have been met.Assist with direct patient care as requested including, but not limited to lifting and/or positioning of patients and prepping patient’s limb.Work effectively with other departments’ staff to assure OR is clean, safe, and ready for patient careInform Manager and Charge Nurse of instrument and/or equipment failure.Observe Standard Precautions (gloves, gown, mask, eye protection) when handling any hazardous/ bio material.Sorts and restocks scrubs for male and female locker rooms.Makes and stores linen turn-over bundles for ORs.Clean and return equipment and lead aprons to appropriate location(s).Maintain a clean and organized work area.Perform other related duties as required such as but not limited to monitoring expiration dates, filling specimen containers with formalin.Deliver specimens and cultures to lab; pick up blood products as requested.Clean OR pass through windows shelves and space.Monitor and manage cleanliness of lounges, work areas and returns dishes to food services.Place trauma cart outside of Rm. 4 prior to leaving.Ensure all remaining cases have instruments prior to end of shift.Communicate end of shift report to Charge Nurse prior to departure.Perform other duties as assigned appropriate to responsibilities.Demonstrate Standards of Behavior and adhere to the Code of Conduct in all aspects of job performance at all times.Required:High School graduate or equivalent.2 years Central Service experience or related field or formal training as Central Service Technician.Must have thorough knowledge of aseptic technique, understand sterilization procedures, infection control requirements, and a basic knowledge of surgical procedures, terminology, equipment, and instruments.Must be a team-oriented, self-starting individual able to work under demanding situations.Must be currently certified in CPR and recertified annually.Must have effective verbal and written communication skills.Must possess basic computer skills related to Windows navigation, mouse usage, keyboarding, email communication and password management.Desired:ORT programWord processing experience.O = Occasional, represents 1 to 25% or up to 30 minutes in a 2 hour workday.F = Frequent, represents 26 to 50% or up to 1 hour of a 2 hour workday.C = Continuous, represents 51% to 100% or up to 2 hours of a 2 hour workday.Physical/Sensory Demands ForThis Position:Walking - FSitting/Standing - FReaching: Shoulder Height - FReaching: Above shoulder height - OReaching: Below shoulder height - OClimbing - OPulling/Pushing: 25 pounds or less - FPulling/Pushing: 25 pounds to 50 pounds - FPulling/Pushing: Over 50 pounds - OLifting: 25 pounds or less - FLifting: 25 pounds to 50 pounds - FLifting: Over 50 pounds - OCarrying: 25 pounds or less - FCarrying: 25 pounds to 50 pounds - FCarrying: Over 50 pounds - OCrawling/Kneeling - OBending/Stooping/Crouching - FTwisting/Turning - ORepetitive Movement - OWorking Conditions:Not SpecifiedJob Classification:FLSA: Non-ExemptHourly/Salary: HourlyPhysical Exposures For This Position:Unprotected Heights - NoHeat - YesCold - YesMechanical Hazards - YesHazardous Substances - YesBlood Borne Pathogens Exposure Potential - YesLighting - BrightLighting - DimNoise - YesIonizing/Non-Ionizing Radiation - YesInfectious Diseases - Yes
