Job Description:

The Enterprise Data Architect is a high visibility, transformational leadership position, requiring technical and operational experience as well as the ability to communicate across disciplines and cultures. This position will work closely with an existing Enterprise Data Program and other business stakeholders and will draw on the resources and support of a database administrator, software developers, network administrators, data analysts and subject matter experts. The Enterprise Data Architect will be responsible for the direction, design and implementation of strategic and tactical data management in support of the agencies business goals. Community Transit has many disparate systems both internal and external and our data is growing. Our goal is to integrate these systems into a single data platform. The candidate will maintain the current effort while providing vision and direction for the future.


  1. Execute transformation and maturity of the data management program through effective leadership. Establish a strategic direction and negotiate with senior leadership and other stakeholders to create buy-in for an end-to-end vision of the data management program. Provide coaching to management to help understand the complexities and commitment involved, ensuring data is managed as an enterprise asset. Direct, coach and mentor technical staff to support data development, migration, transformation, deployment, and quality. Serve as techno-functional data integrations expert in project planning, process improvement planning, and portfolio management activities.
  2. Develop a data management strategic vision. Develop standard operating procedures, documentation standards and data governance policies. Develop a Master Data Management (MDM) program to address data integrity across systems. Identify and evaluate current and next-generation data management technologies. Implement modern data management tools with the goal of maturing the agencies data management capabilities.
  3. Manage all activities of data management. Develop database solutions to store and retrieve company information. Coordinate resolution of highly complex problems and tasks, promoting new ideas and concepts in support of operational goals and objectives. Design and develop logical and physical data models. Develop and implement improvements for data integrations. Create document templates and fully document all data assets associated with the data mart and future data management systems. Manage source control of integration and transformation scripts.
  4. Other duties of a similar nature or level

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2 years experience implementing successful data management solutions and approaches with experience with the following:
    • Data Management Tools such as Snowflake, Azure Data Factory, Azure Logic Apps, Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Server Data Tools and Azure Data Studio or related tooling
    • Structured Query Language (SQL)
    • SQL procedural languages such as T-SQL and PL/SQL
    • Data integration solutions such as RESTful API, ODBC, JDBC, OLE, OpenQuery, Polybase, database links, linked server
  • Or a Bachelor degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field.

A combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties may be considered.

Entry Requirements for: Knowledge and Skills

Qualification to enter this position requires knowledge of the following:

  • Data management solutions and approaches
  • Solutions and tools for structured, non-structured and Big Data including on-prem and cloud services
  • Source Control for databases
  • Exploratory data analysis, data visualization, statistical data analysis and data modeling
  • Tableau or similar BI tools

Qualification to enter this position requires skill in:

  • Data transformation tools and methods

Physical Requirements

Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions, carrying.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
