You will be responsible for working with community health centers, clinics, individual providers, hospitals to promote the implementation of best practices to help injured workers heal and return to work. This is an excellent opportunity to grow your skills in the medical field, and to learn how to educate a team in achieving their goals through effective coaching and quality assurance practices.

In this exciting opportunity, you will develop innovative ways to educate and communicate with healthcare providers. You will use creative thinking, writing skills, and knowledge of the Washington State Labor and Industries workers compensation system to ensure providers, staff and injured workers receive support to improve communication and care coordination.

As a Medical Program Specialist 2 in the Office of the Medical Director, you will be part of a professional, dynamic team. You will be responsible for building relationships between key stakeholders, L&I and injured workers.

The Medical Program Specialist 2 will support providers and staff to improve communication with L&I, provide education on forms and reimbursement, and establish processes that promote access to care for workers underserved in the current system, including workers with Limited English Proficiency (LEP).Duties

  • Write and update information and education materials for providers related to approved healthcare policies, medical treatment guidelines and programs, and develop strategies that promote acceptance and adoption by providers.
  • Establish and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships to increase access to services for underserved communities and workers with Limited English Proficiency (LEP).
  • Provide support in creating care pathways and protocols in health care centers for LEP injured workers.
  • Assess perceived barriers within health centers and clinics and recommend ways to improve.
  • Create training timelines, coordinate and facilitate the testing of knowledge gained.
  • Complete, submit and communicate monthly progress reports on status of program implementation.
  • Capture and analyze data to understand the needs, challenges, and opportunities involving various stakeholders.
  • Ensure pre and post readiness assessments are completed, discussed with healthcare providers and their staff, and submitted to L&I.
  • Develop relationships with organizations, practicing clinicians, and leaders in public and private healthcare to facilitate promotion of occupational health best practices in Washington State.Qualifications

Required:

  • Three years of experience with health care delivery systems, preferably occupational health systems.
  • Experience with quality improvement.
  • Solid understanding of clinic work flow patterns.
  • Experience with care coordination, including attending providers, specialists, nurses, physical therapy, occupational therapy, vocational rehabilitation counselors, health service coordinators, and claim managers.
  • Proficient in the skill of cultural mediation.*Desired: *

  • Three years of experience with L&I workers compensation systems, including Claim and Account Center (CAC), Comagine and FileFast.

  • Knowledge of occupational health best practices.
  • Fluent in Spanish, both verbally and in writing.
  • A Masters Degree with a major study in public health, public administration, nursing, health administration, economics, business administration, or closely allied field.
  • Two additional years of qualifying experience may be substituted for the Masters degree.Supplemental Information
