Job Description:
The Multimodal Intelligence team, part of Microsoft’s Core
Artificial Intelligence (AI) organization, empowers developers and
applied scientists across the globe to easily integrate AI
capabilities—such as processing documents, videos, images, and
other file types—into their applications. We are seeking a
Principal Software Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate
will have a strong background in Applied Machine Learning, deep
expertise in Python programming and system design, and hands-on
experience building large-scale, high-volume cloud services. Proven
success in solving complex challenges in Natural Language
Processing, Computer Vision, and Artificial Intelligence is
essential. Familiarity with Large Language Models and Agent

Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND
6 years technical engineering experience with coding in languages
including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or
Python OR equivalent experience. Software Engineering IC5 - The
typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD
$139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable
to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and
New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this
role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.

Microsoft posts positions for a minimum of 5 days, with

filled. Responsibilities Develop industry-leading products and
agents powered by large language models for multimodal content
understanding. Collaborate with Product Managers to define product
requirements, scope, and priorities. Partner with researchers to
translate cutting-edge research into scalable, real-world
solutions. Engage directly with customers to understand their
challenges, resolve issues, and incorporate feedback into product
