The Boeing KC-46 Tanker Mission Systems Avionics (MSA) team located in Tukwila or Everett WA is seeking a Senior (Level 4) and dedicated Senior Lead (Level 5) Military Data Network (MDN) Engineer and Architect. The MDN System is an integrated suite of processors and data network equipment that provides a Classified and Un-Classified computing environment for aircraft mission systems, making the KC-46 aircraft an interoperable member of the USAF net-centric fleet. This role will be responsible for leadership and oversight of the entire MDN hardware system which includes the Airborne Processor System (APS), Audio/Video Encoders, Cross Domain Guard (CDG), Network Gateway (NG), High Assurance IP Encryptor (HAIPE), and Data Transfer Unit (DTU). Also, this role will serve as the Equipment Manager (EM) for the APS, Audio/Video Encoders, and Keyboard Switch hardware components. Responsibilities include strong supplier & Boeing manufacturing oversight management, maintaining design configuration requirements, production aircraft troubleshooting support, technical issue investigations & RCCA, as well as new architecture developments for future upgrades and international customers.

The Boeing KC-46 Pegasus is the new USAF aerial refueling tanker aircraft designed to support multi-role missions including refueling, cargo/passenger transport, and medevac airlift. The KC-46 is a military commercial derivative aircraft based on the Boeing 767-2C aircraft and modified per USAF specifications for the primary mission of aerial refueling US and Allied aircraft using either the Hose & Drogue systems or the Boom. The KC-46 is also equipped with a suite of self-defensive and tactical situational awareness systems that allows the aircraft to get closer to the fight when supporting combat missions.

Position Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead the engineering design, development, and analysis of Military Data Networks avionics to ensure seamless integration into higher level systems and platforms.
  • Consultation in the design, development, integration, test, and operational capability of various USAF and international programs.
  • Development, validation, and verification of requirements.
  • Overseeing the definition and execution of critical tests of various kinds to validate performance of designs to requirements.
  • Leadership in technical management of appropriate aspects of critical supplier, internal Boeing manufacturing, and partner performance to ensure compliance to requirements.
  • Support for products will include the entire lifecycle including development, production, in service support, as well as flight and lab testing.
  • Gathers information to support proposal development for upgrades and new business. This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. Everett, WA or Seattle, WA. Based on selected employee preference and agreement with manager.

    This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship as a condition of employment. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

    Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
    • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
    • 1+ Year of experience with FAA and/or Military airworthiness certification.
    • 3+ Years of avionics integration experience
    • 3+ Years of experience with computer hardware and software components (processes, memory, interfaces, high order languages) and characteristics (throughput, processing hardware, timing, capacity)
    • 3+ Years of experience leading teams and projects
    • 3+ Years of experience with Equipment Management
    • 1+ Year of experience with Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) processes and implementing corrective actions Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
      • (Level-5) 5+ years of higher education and/or related work experience (Higher education includes college, university, technical school, licensing/certification programs, etc.)
      • Have or have held an active U.S. Security Clearance in the past 24 months.
      • Technical subcontract supplier management Typical Education/Experience:

        Senior (Level 4): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

        Senior Lead (Level 5): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

        Relocation:

        This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. Note: Basic relocation will be offered for eligible internal candidates.

        Summary pay range for Senior (Level 4): $128,350 - $173,650

        Summary pay range for Senior Lead (Level 5): $157,250 - $212,750

        This is a union-represented position.
