Job DescriptionJoin an established and growing multi-specialty Ophthalmology practice! Medical Assistant in a Surgical SettingReady to learn more about the exciting world of eyes? Eager to be part of a hands-on and engaging team that delivers life-changing vision correction outcomes? You will work cooperatively with our MA's, surgeon, RN's and Surgical Technologists to become part of an integrated team of professionals that together will improve the quality of peoples lives. We are looking to fill a full-time, 30 hour per week (0.75 FTE) Medical Assistant position in our Sequim Ambulatory Surgical Center. Training starts in Admit/Discharge, eventually learning to circulate eye surgery cases. We use Nextech EMR and have one on-site ophthalmologist. The majority of our cases are cataract surgeries, with some glaucoma, lids and minor procedures. Our main operating days are Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday but can fluctuate depending on procedures and the holiday schedule. In this role, you will work three 10 hour days/week.Responsibilities may include:

  • Perform pre/post-operative patient calls
  • Admit and prepare the patient for surgery including taking and recording vital signs; recognize when to escalate findings to RN
  • Follow physicians orders and the centers policies and procedures.
  • Record patient medical histories, symptoms and conditions
  • Administer eye drops
  • Document in patient EHR & communicate actions to maintain continuity among the nursing team
  • Comply with procedures, regulations and rules in maintaining medical records
  • Function cooperatively with physicians and staff exhibiting teamwork characteristics.
    • Circulate patient through surgery
    • Discharge patient
    • Prepare patients for Minor Procedures, such as laser treatments
    • Train and practice knowledge of asepsis, infection control, and sterilization
    • Order supplies and maintains records
    • Abide by all company and compliance policies and procedures including HIPAA, OSHA/WISHA, Patient confidentiality, and insurance requirements.

      • High school diploma or GED
      • Minimum 1 year of medical experience required
      • Current BLS
      • Knowledge of sterile technique as it applies to operating room preferred
      • Safe positioning of patients when required
      • Ability to anticipate the needs of the team before such needs arise
      • Ability to adapt to various types of personalities
      • Team player - willing to help in all areas, have flexibility and effectively work in a team environment
      • Excellent verbal and written communication for exemplary customer service.
      • Professional appearance, strong interpersonal skills, and patient confidentiality.
