The focus of this position is field and laboratory work.STATEMENT OF ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES--* Performs independent materials sampling and testing in both the field and in the lab using specialized equipment and standard testing meth--ods; prepares test reports/forms, evaluates test results for conformance with applicable specifications, and provides appropriate observations and documentation;--* Installs, operates, and maintains geotechnical instrumentation and equipment;--* Maintains and calibrates materials testing equipment, and maintains calibration records.* May operate and maintain a soil sampling drill rig and tooling used to perform geotechnical and environmental investigations and prepares boring logs.STATEMENT OF OTHER JOB DUTIES-- * Performs related duties as required.--Minimum Qualifications Graduation from a two-year accredited program in civil engineering, civil engi--neering technology, geology or related field; AND, three (3) years of field or office experience in materials testing; OR, a Washington State Resource Protection Well Operator License, AND three (3) years of field or office experience in materials testing or drilling; OR, any equivalent combination of training and/or experience which provides the required knowledge and ability necessary to perform the work. --Must pass job related tests.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS* A valid Washington State Driver's License is required for em--ployment.* Certification of completion of a 40-hour OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 certified Health & Safety Program may be required, OR, ability to obtain within 6 months.* Ability to obtain a nuclear density gauge license within 6 months.* A Washington State Resource Protection Well Operator License may be required.--Additional Information KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIESKnowledge of:* principles and practices of construction material testing, including testing of concrete, soil and asphalt* principles, practices, techniques and instruments related to geotechnical and environmental sciences* mathematics, algebra and geometry* codes, regulations and standards applicable to area of assignment* current regulations and standards, in the area of specialization--Ability to: * interpret engineering plans and specifications* use and maintain instruments and equipment used in area of assignment* communicate effectively with engineers, contractors, developers, staff members and the general public* work independently and organize workload* lead, train, and review the work of other employees* prepare technical calculations necessary for design and construction projects--SUPERVISIONEmployees report to a technical or professional supervisor or lead as assigned. Employee may serve as a lead worker and be responsible for coordinating the work of other employees. Work is performed in--dependently or as a member of a crew. Work is reviewed in progress or upon completion for accuracy and adherence to engineer--ing standards.WORKING CONDITIONSWork is performed in the office or in the field in varying weather conditions. The employee is also exposed to a variety of conditions such as: working in trenches, excavations, and on steep slopes, uneven terrain and slippery surfaces.
