medicines for those who need them, faster. The Surgical Specialist
will manage our surgical program (NHP, Swine, Canine, Rodent)
including daily workflow, personnel assignments, training,
equipment, and supplies. Performs selected surgical procedures that
require advanced expertise/experience. Facilitates all aspects of
surgery and surgical support functions according to SOPs and GLP.
Supports Study Supervisor(s) and Study Director(s) by performing
and assisting with surgical procedure coordination and execution on
research studies. Responsibilities: Follows, performs, and develops
SOP's and Protocols for surgery and surgical support for study and
stock animals, including, but not limited to femoral/intrathecal
catheterizations, telemetry implantations, skin/muscle/bone
marrow/lymph node/liver biopsies, cerebrospinal fluid collection,
intracerebroventricular (ICV) cannula implantation, osmotic pump
implantation, endoscopy, bronchoalveolar lavage,
electroencephalography (EEG),apheresis, gas anesthesia, anesthesia
monitoring, and experimental procedures Phonemah/DSI implantation
and maintenance for M and L series implants Manages the daily
workflow for the surgical program, including, but not limited to
personnel assignments, surgery facility availability, and
study/stock surgery needs to ensure procedures are performed as
required and the facility is properly maintained Coordinates with
Safety Assessment and Laboratory Animal Resources to plan, perform,
and create surgical procedures in SOP and Protocol form Creation
and maintenance of the surgical training program and continued
training ofpersonnel to GLP and company standards using written
instruction, simulation, practical, and vendor training program
resources Ensures continued function and maintenance of surgical
equipment Orders and inventories supplies in the surgical
facilities, including study specific supplies Operates selected
laboratory equipment (e.g., surgical, imaging, telemetry and
ECGequipment) Qualifications BS/BA in a scientific discipline
preferred Experience or familiarity with at least one of the
following surgical techniques: biopsies, femoral implantation,
telemetry device implantation, IT dosing or implantation,
intravitreal dosing, CSF collection, bone marrow collection or
similar procedure in animal. 3+ years related work experience (GLP
preferred) LATg certification or equivalent preferred Ability to
work with Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Info Path, Access,
Outlook, and PowerPoint Able to adapt easily to new software
programs The language skills required include, but are not limited
to the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety
rules, operating and maintenance instructions, software manuals,
study documents, and procedure manuals Ability to write routine
reports and correspondence The math skills required include, but
are not limited to the ability to understand and utilize
appropriate mathematical concepts for calculating and interpreting
scientific data Continual GLP training and training on applicable
procedures and SOPs within the department. Ability to work cross
functionally on process improvements Demonstrated attention to
detail. Ability to multi-task and maintain organization in a fast
paced, changing environment. Ability to manage change. Readily
adapts to new projects. Positive attitude toward work and
co-workers.Comfortable communicating with all levels of management
and employees. Able to identify and resolve problems as they are
encountered Wear appropriate PPE in accordance with policies and
procedures. PPE may include, but is not limited to: N-95
respirator, face mask, safety glasses, goggles, face shield,
gloves, lab coat, scrubs, shoe covers, hair bouffant, and arm
protectors Ability to work overtime, holidays, weekends, and
