Boeing Commercial Airplanes is seeking Tool Engineers to support the tooling for the 777-8FX models of Boeing aircraft. As a Tool Engineer, you will support a variety of tooling that is required to build the new 777 freighter minor model. This tooling will consist of new and modified existing tooling required for the new aircraft; several new engineers are needed to support these changes which need to meet our same high levels of safety, usability, and reliability. One type of tooling application at Boeing includes small tools that require a high level of ingenuity and engineering knowledge to be utilized in high precision, limited space applications. Conversely, other tooling applications involve highly complex multi-purpose and multi-cell automation. Both, highly diverse, types of tooling are equally as important to the future of Boeing as are the engineers who design them.

A successful candidate in this role will have passion, creativity, and an insatiable desire for process improvement and efficiency. They will also have a strong desire to be out in the factory, interacting with mechanics, safety, and equipment services, and directly supporting the production system. In Production Engineering, we need highly responsible professionals committed to upholding the highest standards of safety, quality, and integrity.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including; Associate and Mid-Level, and Experienced Engineers.

Primary responsibilities:

This is an equipment and tooling development, implementation, and improvement role. Your duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Investigates and develops basic to moderately complex equipment and tooling concepts and specifications to satisfy aerospace product design and build requirements.
  • Participates in design reviews, collects design requirements, creates and revises drawings and models to support the build plan.
  • Creates specifications, purchase requests and usage instructions for equipment and tooling.
  • Self-checks designs for compliance with safety, producibility, maintainability, reliability, ergonomic factors and regulatory requirements.
  • Develops and documents equipment and tooling inspection and usage instructions, preventative maintenance plans, and supports user training development.
  • Researches designs to create and revise usage instructions. Provides technical support for engineering changes and discrepancies by investigating problems, and analyzing data to identify solutions.
  • Maintains hardware and software configuration. Supports the disposition of equipment and tooling.
  • Perform studies and make recommendations for the disposition of assets.
  • Develops concepts and designs in CATIA and present them for technical and financial approval.
  • Collaborate with both the engineering workforce and the mechanics on the factory floor
  • Work to industry standards including compliance with hardware and safety codes Work Authorization Statement:

    The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. - 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

    Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
    • Bachelor's degree or higher in ABET-accredited course of study in engineering.
    • Minimum 1 year of experience working in an engineering discipline
    • Minimum 1 year of experience with production systems in a manufacturing or engineering capacity Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
      • Mid-Level: Bachelor's degree and typically 5 or more years related work experience, a Master's degree and typically 3 or more years' related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
      • Experienced: Bachelor's degree and typically 9 or more years related work experience, a Master's degree and typically 7 or more years' related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
      • 5 or more years of experience working in an Equipment or Tool Engineering role
      • 5 or more years of experience working in a production environment
      • 3 or moreyears of CATIA V5 solid modeling experience
      • 3 or more years of working GD&T experience
      • 3 or more years leading teams in a leadership role
      • 1 or more years of experience working with hardware configuration management Typical Education/Experience:

        Associate Level: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

        Mid-Level: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

        Experienced Level: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

                Summary pay range:

                Associate (level 2) : $81,600 - $110,400

                Mid-Level (level 3) : $96,050 - $129,950

                Experienced (level 4) : $ 118,150- $159,850
