This position is responsible for designing, developing and implementing cost-effective material combinations and manufacturing methods for a range of composite sandwich structures which meets and exceeds cost, quality and schedule requirements. In addition, there will also be a requirement to providing technical support to internal and external composite manufacturing facilities.

Primary Responsibilities:

Lead and support initiatives to identify and develop new or improved materials/processes/fabrication and assembly techniques, and associated data development for the design, manufacture and certification of composite panels.

  • Collaborate with the Integrated Product Team on new programs/products to ensure all appropriate deliverables are achieved on time and the product developed satisfies all production requirements.
  • Create, revise and review project-related Statements of Work, Material and Process Specifications, test and qualification documents, design data and qualification/substantiation data.
  • Assesses industry trends and opportunities for new technologies and implements investigative research and development initiatives to advance competitive designs.
  • Support the bid process for new programs through process selection, the development of recurring and non-recurring costs and identify tooling requirements.
  • Works with Business Development to meet customers product needs through innovation and problem solving.
  • Identify, support and implement cost saving, quality improvement and Lean initiatives.
  • Lead root cause and corrective action problem solving projects in a team environment.
  • Contribute to the culture of continuous improvement within the department.
  • Any other duties as required to support business needs.
    Basic Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of prior relevant experience OR
    • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience OR
    • In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required
    • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor's degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
      Preferred Qualifications:
      • Minimum of three years working experience in the area of composites materials within an Engineering or Manufacturing environment

        • Minimum of three years working experience in the area of composites manufacturing methods within an Engineering or Manufacturing environment

          • Minimum of three years working experience in the area of composite honeycomb sandwich panels

            • Minimum of three years working or research experience in material characterization and mechanical testing.

              • Minimum of one year working or research experience in the flammability of materials

                • Minimum of two years working or research experience in the area of aerospace certification
